While you are out
All Karioi Project traps in the field should be treated as set. Do not attempt to set/unset any trap unless you have been trained and are confident.
Any injury from a trap, requiring third-party treatment, should be reported to the Karioi Project staff.
Traps should be regularly maintained. Remove mould, fur and bits of dead animals, and check for worn pivots, and weakened springs.
Replace any worn-out rat traps and bring back any broken/dysfunctional traps (stoat/possum) to the volunteer coordinator.
Volunteers will undergo an induction and get face-to-face training before they are required to set traps independently.
Please also review the training tools and videos on our website.
