A lot of it, too!

Here is the list of tasks expected to be carried out at every single trap.

Once or twice per year, there may be additional steps to take for more thorough maintenance.

Learn about the steps by clicking each + sign:

  • Open the trap and unset the mechanism (if not sprung already). Avoid damaging the trap by cushioning the blow or slowing down the ‘snap’.

  • Remove the catch - every bone and furball - within the trap. Scrape and/or brush the trap clean.

  • Carry out any minor maintenance such as replacing nails or screws or re-labelling the trap or line markers. Are the mesh entrance holes smooth and ‘sprag’ free?

  • Change the lure in the trap. Throw old lures far away or carry them out with you. Do not leave expired lures in the trap. Keep pests intrigued by frequently changing lure types.

  • For instructions on each type of trap, refer to our ‘Trap Guide’ - linked later.

  • Ensure the box is level and firm and that the entranceway is clear of grass, foliage and obstructions. For tree-mounted traps, ensure it is still securely fastened.

  • It’s too easy to forget a screwdriver or lure container behind. Before moving on to the next trap, ensure all of your gear is back in your kit.
