A practical skills tune‑up workshop for all Karioi Project volunteers and backyard trappers!

Whether you’ve been checking traps for years or you’re just getting started, this workshop is designed to sharpen your skills and lift our collective impact. Rangers Terence and Louie will cover the latest best‑practice techniques, common mistakes to avoid, how to get the most out of each trap type, and simple tweaks that can dramatically improve catch rates.

It’s a chance to learn from each other, ask questions, share field stories, and make sure we’re all working to the same high standard across the maunga. Everyone will walk away with at least one new tip, trick, or confidence boost.

Optional part: After the workshop, you’re welcome to join one of our rangers for an optional trapline quality‑check outing — a chance to put new skills into practice, ask questions on the track, and see best‑practice techniques in action. Expect this part to take the rest of the day.

If you’d prefer, you can also head out to your own trapline and try out what you’ve learned.

Bring your trapping kit, and pack a lunch if you’re planning to join the ranger-led outing.
