Fraser High School Students Gain Real-World Conservation Experience

It was great to welcome Fraser High School students back to Karioi Maunga to complete the practical component of their pest control unit standards.

As part of their Level 3 Agriculture course, the students spent the day alongside the Karioi Project team, contributing to our predator control programme while gaining valuable hands-on experience in conservation.

There's something special about learning beyond the classroom. Not only were the students working towards NCEA credits, but they were also developing practical skills used in real conservation projects and making a genuine contribution to protecting native wildlife across the Karioi landscape.

The day was a chance to see how predator control supports the recovery of our native species and to experience firsthand the teamwork and commitment that community conservation relies on.

Fraser High School shared:

"Our Level 3 Agriculture class joined the Karioi Project to help with their pest control programme around Mt Karioi. This was a valuable hands-on experience in conservation work, helping to reduce pest numbers to protect native wildlife."

A huge thank you to the students for all their hard work, enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in. We hope to see many of them back on the maunga again in the future.
