Backyard Hub badges of honour

Check out the maps below showing the Karioi Project traps, and you’ll see a lot of red dots.

Red means DANGER!  For predators, that is.

Red dots cover Karioi, the coastline, local reserves and also residential areas and backyards thanks to our community’s uptake of the Backyard Hub programme. Looking at this impressive map, we thought, “Wouldn’t it be cool for everyone to see the incredible collective effort being put into restoring biodiversity in Whāingaroa? Let’s put some dots on the ground! “

Originally, we considered a sticker on letterboxes around town. But we didn’t want to distribute more throwaway plastic around Whāingaroa. Instead, we came up with the idea of a wooden badge! We called our friends at Good Wood and hatched a plan. While another awesome volunteer, Tasch Petersman, put together a design. And now, you’ll start seeing these wooden badges popping up around town!

Plastic-free and branded marine grade Brownwood, these badges should last many years. Lightweight and easy to attach to your letterbox, post or fence for all your friends and neighbours to see!

It’s a badge of honour to show you care. Together, we’re restoring biodiversity - one predator at a time. With this cool badge, you will also raise awareness and invite others on the journey to becoming predator free too.

Just follow these three simple steps -

  1. If you're a backyard trapper and you haven’t received your badge yet, get in touch!

  2. Put up your badge and share a photo of your letterbox on our Backyard Hub Facebook group.

  3. Contact us if you would like to trap and receive a badge too!
