The living classroom

“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.”

– John Muir.

The Living Classroom Programme brings learning to life — whether in the classroom, the bush or by the sea. Designed for local and visiting schools from across the Waikato region, the programme connects tamariki and rangatahi to te taiao through inquiry-based, hands-on learning that aligns with the New Zealand Curriculum and te ao Māori values of kaitiakitanga and whanaungatanga.

From in-class workshops that explore local ecosystems, biodiversity, and conservation science, to field trips where students experience these systems first-hand, every session encourages curiosity, discovery, and action for the environment. Each programme can be tailor-made to meet the learning goals and intentions of the group, from half-day workshops to multi-day camps.

Our half-day sessions can take place in or out of the classroom. Allow for 2.5 to 3 hours of instructions. Cost depends on numbers - $30 to $50 per student.

Want to delve deeper into a topic? A full-day workshop allows for this, and with plenty of hands-on experiences too. Cost depends on numbers - $50 to $70 per student.

If you are planning a multi-day camp in Raglan, we can provide environmental education for days on end. We can suggest accommodation for groups.
